Myofascial Release

What is Myofascia?

Myofascia is a part of the body's musculoskeletal system. It is made up of tough connective tissue that surrounds and links every muscle, even the smallest parts, and every single organ in the body. In a healthy state, the fascia is flexible and wavy. It supports tissues and organs, reduces friction, and helps them function normally. Myofascia is highly flexible and can resist tension.

Myofascial Pain and Trigger Points

Myofascial pain syndrome is a common condition that causes regional pain in the body. It is characterized by the presence of myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), which are sensitive points in the muscles. These trigger points can feel like knots under the skin and often result from activities like repetitive movements, overtraining, a sedentary lifestyle, or sudden intense exercise.

In the world of sports and exercise, it has been observed that around 80% of sports-related injuries are related to myofascial issues. Research also suggests that about 85% of muscle pain stemming from injuries is linked to myofascial problems. This type of pain not only lowers an individual's quality of life but can also impair physical performance, particularly in athletes. Moreover, people dealing with chronic pain due to myofascial injuries are more likely to experience psychological distress.
